Support the Department

Private support for the department is crucial to recruiting and retaining top students and faculty in our competitive and increasingly global world. In order to continue providing the outstanding educational experiences Cal Poly is known for, we need your support.

 

Contributions allow the department to provide opportunities for faculty and students, such as:

  • Student Scholarships: The Women's & Gender Studies department is proud to offer a variety of scholarships for students at Cal Poly from all majors who have demonstrated a commitment to women’s and gender equity, community service and leadership.

  • Excellence in Learn by Doing: As a department we desire to enhance knowledge and growth by empowering students in the Learn by Doing experience. Creating the right learning environment is crucial for student success. Your gift would support student travel for conferences and trainings within the field of Women's & Gender Studies, paid internship opportunities in partnership with local and national organizations and the ability for students to collaborate with faculty as paid research assistants.

  • Support the Susan Currier Professorship: The Susan Currier Visiting Professorship for Teaching Excellence is a residential teaching professorship that recognizes superior teaching in the liberal arts, emphasizing the intersection between gender/women's issues and global justice/humanitarian concerns. Established as an endowment in 2007, the Susan Currier Visiting Professorship makes it possible for Cal Poly to host a faculty member with a distinguished record of teaching excellence and for the recipient to share their expertise and passion for teaching, social justice, and the liberal arts. Selected visiting professors teach new and innovative courses on topics related to their research and interests, and also present the annual Susan Currier Memorial Lecture. Previous Susan Currier Visiting Professors are Ghada Talhami (2009), Silvia Salvatici (2011), Jody Lisberger (2013-14) and Gilda Ochoa (2015-16).

  • Faculty: As an interdisciplinary department, our dedicated and diverse faculty strives to enrich student academic experiences while stimulating improvements in teaching for the ultimate benefit of our students. Your support would help to fund faculty travel to professional conferences and trainings, and provide equipment and supplies for our faculty.

  • Barbara Hallman Award: Established in 2007, the Barbara McClung Hallman Women’s Studies Faculty Award is designed “to benefit Women’s and Gender Studies Department faculty by recognizing their accomplishments and supporting their professional development.” Support our annual recognition of excellence in research, teaching and/or service in WGS through the Barbara Hallman Award.
