Cal Poly to Celebrate Feminist and Queer Studies Journal Launch May 29

Cal Poly will host a celebration for the release of the 2015 issue of Sprinkle: An Undergraduate Journal of Feminist and Queer Studies from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 29, at the Steynberg Gallery in San Luis Obispo.

Originally created in 2007 as a collection of writings from students in McGill University’s Sexual Diversity Studies Department, the journal has expanded to widen the scope of the issues addressed with each volume. The variety in entries is intended to foster relationships with larger audiences and people of numerous identities and backgrounds.

The seventh edition of the 139-page journal features a new collection of essays exploring issues related to gender, sexuality, and queer history and experience. The journal’s previous volumes have engaged these issues with ideas of mass media, literary criticism, ecology, environmentalism and technology. Sprinkle also incorporates creative pieces that artistically explore issues of gender and sexuality.

The celebration will recognize the journal’s editorial board, local contributors and donors.

Sponsored by the Women’s and Gender Studies Department and Instructionally Related Activities, the event is free and open to the public.

Steynberg Gallery is at 1531 Monterey St. Light refreshments will be served.
